Longwave at the Troubadour

There were three acts this night. Each better than the one before it. To start things off, Eulogies.

Then came War Tapes. These guys were all over the place. Highly charged, and just full of energy. Definitely would check them out again.

Finally Longwave came on. I haven’t heard any of their songs since Strangest Things, which is their second album. So three-fourths of their songs were new. But they were all good with good drum lines and good old fashion wailing.

Photowalk: Old Town Pasadena

This was a fun walk with a good group. We avoided the main strip (Colorado Blvd.) and just stuck to the alleys and back streets. Sure there aren’t as many lights and flashy things, but it’s more secluded and not too many people know about these areas.

Upcoming Event: Photowalk Old Town Pasadena

Last year when I did this, it started as nothing more than a walk around Old Town Pasadena. Then about an hour in, there was a shooting. Of all places, this would have been the last place to expect drama like that. But that also ended my walk since the police blocked off most of the back alleys and closed down some streets.

One year later, it’s time to return. I was driving down Green St. and the trees just looked amazing. So here’s the plan: Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Evening Drive Around

It was a boring Sunday evening. The football game didn’t hold my interest, and I was just itching to get out and do something. So I grabbed my camera and tripod and headed out towards Pasadena. The building at left is on the corner of Del Mar and El Molino.

Chinatown/Little Tokyo Photowalk

This was a nice walk with a good turnout. The weather was cold and the fog was rolling in. Although the fog wasn’t bad at all. It wasn’t heavy enough to obscure downtown from where we were. As for the weather, it warmed up once we started walking around. We met at the East end of Central Plaza and from there snaked our way around Chinatown.

Upcoming Event: Chinatown/Little Tokyo Photo-”hike” (12/2/2008)

For the sake of this post, I’m changing Photo-hike to photowalk. Sure we’ll be walking, but instead of trails and overhanging brush, you’ll be greeted with walkways and cool suspended lights.

I had done a Chinatown photowalk last year and haven’t been back since. I remember that when I was there, there was a lot more that I had wanted to take photos of. So, one year later, it’s time to revisit this popular tourist destination. And what a better time to do it than at night.

“Hey Hey… Ho Ho… Homophobia’s Got To Go!”

This rally took place in front of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Downtown Los Angeles. I had gotten there at about 1:30 and at that time, Temple Street was still open to traffic. That just meant passing cars could drive by and honk their support. But, this also separated the group into two. One group was across the street while the other was directly in front of the entrance and next to the parking lot of the church.
